Professor Ava Hossain is Director cum Chief Consultant at OSB Eye Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her significant contributions towards preventing blindness in Bangladesh and Asia Pacific Region are widely recognized. She has long 43 years’ experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Bangladesh

She is the President of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO). She is an advisor to the Women Ophthalmologists Worldwide (WOW).

She was also President of SAARC Academy of Ophthalmology (SAO), Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh (OSB) and Founding President of Bangladesh Community Ophthalmological Society (BCOS).

In recognition of the significant contributions to Ophthalmology in the Asia Pacific region and beyond she was included in the 100 most influential Ophthalmologists by the Asia Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology in 2022

She was recognized as the top 100 influential women ophthalmologists of the world by The Ophthalmologist power list 2021.

In 2020 she received Honorary Fellow of All India Collegium of Ophthalmology (FAICO) Award, as a mark of an outstanding stalwart of ophthalmology.

Prof. Hossain is the recipient of many prestigious International and National Awards, including APAO Distinguished Service Award, APAO Arthur Lim Award, APAO Achievement Award, Modasser-Daud-Mala SAARC Award, Shusila Biswal Memorial Award by Indian Alumni Group of ICEH of London, Mubarak Ali Memorial Gold Medal, Alim Memorial Gold Medal, Life Time Achievement Award of OSB, Professor Humuyan Kabir Memorial Award of BAO. She is also recipient of SAO highest award the SAO Founder’s award.

She is a member of the Editorial Board of the Ocular Surgery News - APAO Edition (OSN-AP), Editorial Board Member of the Austin Journal of Clinical Ophthalmology and a reviewer for the International Journal of Ophthalmology (IJO).

She is an author and co-author of 77 publications and has delivered a large number of invited symposium and oration lectures in ophthalmology, both Nationally and Internationally.
