Dr. Suresh Viswanathan is a professor at the State University of New York College of Optometry where he also serves as Chair of the Department of Biological and Vision Science and Director of Institutional Research and planning. He also holds an appointment in Graduate Center for Vision Research at the college. Dr. Viswanathan received his Optometry degree from Chennai, India. He received his MS degree in Clinical Optometry from Pacific University College of Optometry, Oregon and his PhD degree in Physiological Optics from the University of Houston College of Optometry, Texas. His current areas of research deals with retinal electrophysiology, glaucoma and traumatic brain injury. His TBI work is funded by the US Department of Defense and the National Eye Institute. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) and a gold fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Dr. Viswanathan currently serves as the director of education for the International Society of Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV) and is an associate editor of Documenta Ophthalmologica. He serves on the board of directors of the American Academy of Optometry Foundation and is a member of the Strategic Plan Implementation Committee of the AAO where he coordinates the goals of the research pillar. He also serves as a member of the Council on Research of the American Optometric Association.
